Fuego Latino

Salsa the sauce and Salsa the dance added to the fun Tuesday night at Revival. If this was an assignment as part of an events management course, imagine the rest of the fun for the degree?!

Fuego Latino scorched Revival Tuesday night as George Brown College Bachelor of Applied Business - Hospitality Operations Management Class of '09 hosted a fundraiser for Yes Chef!

Fiery rose petals and bouquets - courtesy of Carisma Florists - decorating the bar and the venue, red and black stoking the emotions and Billy Bryans' latin music transported guests to places hot and sensuel!

George Brown's Chef John Higgns and Chef Eraj Jayawickreme created dishes that highlighted the Americas and the Iberian Penninsula.

Professor Michelle Planche CMP provided insight and guidance for this student planned and executed extravganza. Joe Saturnino - owner of the storried Revival - graciously lent his venue.

Toronto and area was scoured for some very interesting silent auction items ranging from bottles of wine and champagne to an airplane trip from Fort Lauterdale to the Nassau, Bahamas, to artwork to dinners.

Live auction items ranged from a two night stay at the Fairmont Royal York to a foursome at the Wyndance Golf Club to a signed Roy Halladay Blue Jays Jersey.

The guests were treated to a wine sabering by Master Somnelier Candidate and George Brown Instructor Doris Miculan Bradley whose day job is CN Tower's 360 Revolving Restaurant restaurenteur. Guilty As Charged got them laughing with some interesting comedy sketches including a great send up on Councillor Moscoe's Oriental - Asian flap. Think 'Secret Asian Man.'

Shortly after, SalsaTO.ca's Mike & Sharon wowed them with sizzling salsa and a quickie 5 minute lesson that got them moving.

International School of Dance's Bassam & Mandy gave a sparkling Rumba - Cha Cha - Tango performance and a quickie Cha Cha lesson that has those bustles a bustlin'.

Keeping the Fuego Latino lit through the evening was MC Dr. John McTavish, George Brown College Spanish professor, writer for Presencia Latina Newspaper and Spanish Show host on Hamilton's C101.5 FM Sunday 12:00-2:00pm.

Yes Chef! is a $5 million community fundraising campaign that is contributing to renovating and expanding George Brown's existing facilities at 300 Adelaide St. East. The expansion plan includes restoration of a newly acquired, marquee building at 215 King St. East, featuring a street-front, student run restaurant showcasing the Chef School as Canada’s centre of excellence for culinary and hospitality training.
