Acrobat Friday people had a real treat Friday. World Hustle Champions Daniel McGee and Jameson Kilburn gave a beginner lesson in a very smooth variant of Latin Hustle and treated the folks to an impromptu show/demo.
Those who made Saturday afternoon to City Dance Corps's downtown studios were able to take 1 1/4 hour beginner, styling/technique and intermediate Latin Hustle workshops.
The workshops were not only entertaining, but very informative as SalsaTO found out when he slipped over to the dark side for an afternoon of Hustle. Daniel and Jameson got our feet working very well and the partner work just naturally followed. The technique workshop gave the women styling movement to add to their dance and showed the men how to travel on the entire step, giving an elegance to Latin Hustle that is rarely seen in Toronto.
The only downside to the afternoon was the lack of men. There were at least two ladies for each man. Partner dancing isn't a dance without leaders and followers. For the price of two cases of beer, two hours of world class instruction could have been yours. And it does take six months to two years to fully train a leader to move with apparent ease. Next time such an opportunity comes up, don't walk, hustle on over to that venue or studio. Perhaps a few more folks will turn up to the dedicated Hustle nights in Toronto.
