Yonge-Dundas Square was an ocean of people Saturday evening for the 2009 TLN Luminato Light On Your Feet - Salsa!
Steps Dance Studio put on a show, ran a salsa contest, and gave a lesson.
19 couples came out of the crowd to try their luck, two and three at a time for the Salsa contest throwing themselves, almost literally in some cases to the crowd's mercy.
Bringing it right to the crowd and their appeal was the winning formula as their applause chose the winners, with a one night stay at for Saturday 27 June's TLN Salsa At Blue Mountain for the winners. Canada Salsa Congress evening show and dance passes were also up for grabs!
One competitor dipped his partner almost into the lap of a crowd member who tickled her neck before she was pulled up and away into another dizzying round of turns! And the crowd roared when he even stole a kiss from her!
But it was the children competitors and that smiling woman who dragged her companion out, smiling and laughing as she back led him through their fun filled minute!
Toronto's own SalsAfrica delivered two sets of music that had the latinos in the crowd hollering for more. Little islands of dancers could be seen in that swaying, singing, pulsating ocean of people that was Yonge-Dundas Square.
NYC DJ Henry Knowles spun some tunes too! There is a possibility Henry Knowles will return to the 7th Canada Salsa congress in October 2009.
SalsAfrica played everything latin from salsa to boogaloo and Yeti's Banana Boat Song had the Latinos singing along montuno style with the band!
A few brave souls were invited to dance in the stage and included Aaron and Michelle.
Jennifer's Steps gang performing and helping included: Thamara, Clifton, Patrick, Angelo, Dmitry, Soraya, Amanda, Patricia, Efren.
Luisito was joined on stage by Yeti, Mark Kelso, Alex Brown, Robby Botos, Daniel Stone, Roberto Occipinti and more.
People seen included Eliana Cuevas.
The night even made Craigslist where one besmitten soul was looking for a woman in the crowd dressed as a Middle East dancer.
