Salsa is alive in Australia - Some of It!

Tanned and rested from three weeks of Australian summer, Acrobat Friday's Promoter Kevork and Amanda surveyed some of the Oz salsa scene. "Why did I come back here?" Kevork exclaimed, wrapped in a winter coat and standing beside the snowbanks outside Acrobat Lounge Friday night!

Kevork & Amanda @ AcrobatArriving in hot and sunny Sydney, Kevork & Amanda just missed the 2005 Salsa Congress. Amanda said that there is lots of Salsa in Sydney and she danced at the 2004 Congress. With only five days in Sydney, other priorities overtook going to the salsa clubs. Moving onto Melbourne for the bulk of their stay, they had a chance to see what some of Salsa in Oz was all about.!

On one of their Sunday nights, Kevork & Amanda hit The Black Cat. Over 400 people were packed in to enjoy a 12 piece salsa band. People in Melbourne seem to love their salsa music, but they were not quite sure what to actually do with it. they were sort of bobbing along like one does with disco music. When Kevork & Amanda started dancing Salsa, a circle formed and people watched the show!

Another night, they went to Club Viva, and that same 12 piece band band was playing. The people in Club Viva knew a little more salsa, and were able to enjoy listening to the music as well as dancing to it.
