Women, the clack of the clave, and conga Afro-rhythms filled Ba Ba Lúu for Sarita's Rumba Abierta El Solar.
Gold and red sunbursts on the walls and ceilings added color and mood which transformed Ba Ba Luu into a magical room. From the music to the movement, Sarita took them on a journey through Rumba, the origin of much Western music.
Ba Ba Luu's kitchen created the substantial buffet which treated them to chicken, plantains, Cuban rice, salad and a refreshing fruit plate.
Piccolino and others drummed and clacked traditional rhythms. Sarita briefly explained the differences between the three types of Rumba. Dancing several types of rumba, showing the men how to tastefully flirt, showing the women how to avoid the man's bachanal, had them moving even before their lesson.
Almost too soon, it was over, making way for Sarita's especially energetic Casino Rueda night.
Ba Ba Luu's own Papito's created the decor. Rumba Abierta El Solar rises again on the first Sunday in June 2009.
