Halloween @ Lula
Around 9:30pm Saturday night, the outside of the building was ominiously quiet and barely lit.
The only clue was a hastily chalked sign that read "...Halloween Party Inside $10.00...."
Surprise!
Lula Lounge was Spook Central for spirits and goblins to celebrate an extra long Halloween week-end.
The Ghost Busters were nowhere to be seen!
Ana Machado's dance lesson was filled with Policemen, Spider Women, Prisoners, Witches, Vampires... Tables were filled with bunnies, Tostidos Man & Woman, Angels, Cat Woman, Devils, Zorro, a Sailor was working the bar ...
Elvis aka Jose was in the house, doubling not only as host, but as a ghostly DJ for the evening.
Proyecto Charanguero started their first set at the stroke of 10:00pm and were the perfect choice for the night. Their soft string dominated sound contrasted nicely from the harder horns that many latin bands have. Mixing their set with cha cha cha & salsa allowed everyone to dance.
And! The Great Cachaça Hunt is over!
It took Halloween and Lula to bring this reclusive spirit out of hiding. But, out of hiding she finally came.
Jose proudly said, "Sure, we have Cachaça. You should have come here first!"
The review will come later.
Half way through the first set, Streetcar Party dropped a whole busload of happy revellers to join the fun - in costume no less, with Father Guido Sarducci hearing confession, a walking Tarot table forecasting the future, and some angels floating around. Far fewer got on the bus than got off the bus... Guess Lula's charms were too much.
A mysterious lady dressed all in black as Edward Scisserhands won the Best Costume Contest, easily beating out Tostido Man, the French Maid, but only narrowly taking the Geisha Girl by the slimmest of margins.
All partied out and with a little Cachaça spirit warming the tummy, we took to the dark pre-Halloween streets, looking for other spirits to celebrate with.
