All under one roof! The 7th Canada Salsa Congress opened Thursday evening in the downtown Toronto's Sheraton Centre's Dominion Ballroom.
A stage, installed wood floor and a corridor for socializing and getting away from the sound was the elegant venue greeting those going to the pre-party and competition.
Another first for 2009 was an Amateur Class Salsa Competition, encouraging all salsa dancers to put something together and compete, with the prize being a performance during the Congress.
Results from the 3rd Canada Salsa Congress competition and 1st Amateur Canada Salsa Cogress Competition held Thursday 8 October 2009 at the Sheraton Centre.
Amateur Competiton results: First place is Toronto's Steven & Jena with a score of 83.33; Second place is Montreal's Irene & Jacques with a score of 80.0; Third place is Toronto's Gil & Michelle with a score of 77.75. And, congrats Gil and Michelle on their upcoming wedding!
Professional Competition results. First place and the runner-up have a buy and Denise Hernendez of Moreno Travel covered air fare into the semi-final round at the 4th World Salsa Congress Championships in Florida December 2009. Six couples competed. First place is Montreal's Corrine & Joseph with a score of 86.15. Second place is Puerto Rico's Edwin & Greysa with a score of 86.05.
Mexico's Ernesto & Marita, Mo & Alice; Montreal's Victor & Katia; Kassandra & Ricardo also competed and put on very competitive performances that reflected a lot of work, time spent in the studio and passion.
Judges included Miami's Billie, chief judge, Katie scrutineer; Burju; Montreal's Sonia; Nelson Torres, Tito & Tamara; Dance to Live's Paula.
DJ Vanessa Trujillo, DJ Julio and NYCs DJ William Knowles kept the performers, competitors and the people moving all night long.
The old MasMambo troupe, Dance to Live, Steps, Latin Energy, Victor & Katia's Comomango's Students, and City Dance Corps student groups entertaine the crowd While the judges were tabulating the scores.

The stage lighting literally washed the stage in a pepto bismo blend of yellow, red and blue. The extra video lights did not burn it away. These are the best possible results - in color.
