There was more than Pina Colodas brewing at the Steps hotspot during Salsa on Saint Clair. With DJs Nilson and Gio spinning tunes for the long haul, it was a non stop party day and night - all week-end long. Hundreds of thousands looking for their salsa fix burned away the rain and by Saturday evening, Saint Clair Avenue was a sea of humanity pulsing to a salsa beat. One ground zero was the Steps hotspot.
Throngs of people gathered Sunday afternoon in the sun to watch passersby and some of Jennifer's students fill that wood dance floor nailed down especially for the occasion and salsa away. It made things very easy on the knees for turning. Huge grins were plastered on everyone's faces along with their sunscreen.
About every hour Jennifer or one of her instructors would run a quick Merengue, Salsa or Reggae lesson for the folks who filled that floor and all the space around it. An even larger circle of people would watch and a few more would literally drop in.
Street & Mainstage Busy
In between all this, Jennifer's Teen Salsa Class, co-choreographed by Belinda Domingues performed for the first time on the big MainStage infront of thousands of people. And, Jennifer various assistants, including Clifton gave salsa and reggaeton lessons on the MainStage while the bands were setting up. They even got the TLN MCs Giselle and CBC's Marielle dancing.
Sunday afternoon visitors were treated toRhythmic Fire performing, their troupe of teen and pre-teen dancers covering it all - from Tango to Salsa to Hip-Hop!
Jennifer was esctatic as she said,
"It was great to see kids as young as 3 or 4 participating in the lessons alongside the adults. The energy and enthusiasm of the staff, volunteers and particpants was incredible! We had Salsa, Merengue and Reggae/Reggaeton lessons and they were all a hit!"
Salsa as a Multi-Media Experience
The whole salsa thing is becoming a virtual real time multi-media experience as people are taking pictures and videos and posting them on the Internet as they are dancing. Yahoo is running a channel for Salsa on Saint Clair, some interviews and dance clips are there. TLN interviews are also posted on Yahoo's Channel.
