Doctor Romualdo Belardinelli at the Lancisi Heart Institute in Ancona, Italy says dancing is good for the body too.
Dr. Belardinelli discovered that waltzing is just as good as the treadmill or the bicycle for increasing both aerobic and anaerobic fitness in congestive heart failure patients and heart attack patients. Building a clinical study using social dance, Dr Belardinelli chose the waltz as it is globally known and is aerobic.
Dr. Belardinelli's study concluded those who danced their way through exercise fared better than those who did nothing or those who worked the bicycle or treadmill. He also noted that having a partner and social companionship may have encouraged the participants to stick with the exercise program.
What's more fun? Waltz, salsa or a treadmill? Could these benefits come from salsa too?
